Estate Tree Care
& Fine Pruning
Your landscape deserves tree care that honors its artistic vision while building long-term resilience.
Annual & Seasonal Inspections
Complex landscapes evolve constantly and benefit from regular monitoring. Our annual or seasonal inspections provide detailed evaluations of your trees and shrubs, ensuring early detection of health or structural concerns. Each visit is followed by a written report — with photographs when appropriate — outlining observations, recommended actions, and priorities for ongoing care.
Structural & Aesthetic Pruning
with a Designer’s Perspective
Fine pruning is both an art and a science — a craft that blends structural understanding with a designer’s eye. Every cut shapes not just the tree’s form, but its future.
At Heirloom Tree & Shrub Care, pruning is the foundation of our practice. We approach each specimen with respect for its natural architecture, ecological function, and place within the landscape. Our objective is to create trees and shrubs that are healthier, safer, and more beautiful over time — living works of art that mature with grace.
When assessing a tree’s pruning needs, we consider aesthetics, biology, and your long-term goals. Common objectives include:
Balancing the crown for visual harmony and wind resilience
Making structural cuts that support long-term stability and longevity
Removing deadwood or hazardous limbs to enhance safety and vigor
Preserving and framing key vistas while maintaining a natural silhouette
Up-branching for clearance around roofs, drives, and walkways
Reducing crown size to manage growth and minimize wind load
Every project begins with a thoughtful evaluation of plant health and client objectives. With decades of training and experience in fine arboriculture and horticultural design, we bring both technical precision and aesthetic sensitivity to every tree we touch.
Air Spading to Improve Root Health
Healthy trees depend on a healthy soil environment that allows air, water, and nutrients to reach their roots. Over time, soil can become compacted from foot traffic, lawn equipment, or construction — restricting the tree’s ability to breathe and absorb moisture.
Air spading is a non-invasive method for relieving soil compaction. Using compressed air, we gently loosen the soil around the root zone without harming roots or trunk tissue. The result is a crumbly, oxygen-rich soil structure that promotes stronger, healthier root growth.
Beyond root-zone rejuvenation, air spading is also invaluable for delicate excavation near trees during construction projects — allowing arborists to safely expose and protect critical roots when installing utilities, footings, or hardscape elements.
This process also exposes the root system for inspection, enabling assessment of root health and, if needed, corrective pruning to encourage better development.
Coordination with Your Gardener, Landscape Team, or Estate Manager
We frequently collaborate with other green-industry professionals — gardeners, landscape contractors, turf-care providers, and plant-health specialists. This integrated approach ensures cohesive, well-timed care across every element of the property.
When requested, we can also coordinate and oversee other contractor teams, streamlining communication and upholding the highest standards of craftsmanship and horticultural care throughout the landscape.
